With over 20 years in the fire service, Frank’s experience spans various positions in a large rural all-volunteer agency, part-time paid agencyand large rural/urban/commercial combination agencies with volunteer and full-time union firefighter staffing. From Volunteer Firefighter to Fire Chief, Frank earned his tenure through acquiring experience in each firefighter discipline, including emergency medical, structural firefighting, wildland firefighting, hazmat, technical rescue, and rescue swimmer. Frank has held administration roles across all command staff positions as well as Human Resource Director. A background in labor law and labor-management relations was gained as an IAFF local union grievance chair for 10 years. From cleaning bathrooms to managing an agency, Frank’s servant leadership style has developed an impactful resume.
What Experience Does Frank Dahlquist Have Outside The Fire Service?
Frank has expanded his business and professional experience since he started working when he was 14 years old. Marketing his first business as a neighborhood handyman, mowing lawns, painting houses, etc. By 18, he was a store manager for a multi-million-dollar sales local hardware store. Turning 20, he developed the branding and marketing for a start-up real estate company and was the assistant to the sales manager. Working both full-time jobs, Frank completed college, achieving a criminal justice degree with honors. With over 10 years managing the hardware store for the private owners, Frank had amassed experience as the human resource director, employee supervision (seasonally 40-60 employees), inventory management, marketing, facility management and renovation, vendor relations, and a wealth of customer service and customer challenge experience. This propelled Frank to be recruited as a project manager for a construction company that provided services for those experiencing property damage due to water, fire, or sometimes vehicles into a building. Frank specialized in the completion of projects with a fine touch for customer service and customer satisfaction after project completion. During this time, Frank joined his local fire department as a volunteer firefighter, completed his agency fire academy, became an EMT, and graduated from the Washington State Fire Training Academy. Now fast-tracked into the fire service, Frank completed a three-year journeyman firefighter/driver-operator apprenticeship and achieved a degree in fire science with honors.
